Oklahoma – Okie Burger

Welcome to the Sooner State and another Great Plate!!

The Oklahoma onion burger got its start in El Reno back in 1926, when Ross Davis at the Hamburger Inn figured out how to stretch a buck during the Great Depression. Beef was high-dollar, onions were dirt cheap, so ol’ Ross slapped a thin patty on the griddle, piled it high with onions, and smashed it flat. Them onions caramelized right into the meat, and it was downright delicious. The original joint’s long gone, but the tradition’s still kickin’.

Small’s Okie Burger ain’t shy—it’s two juicy patties jam-packed with onions, smashed together caramelizing those onions right on into it. Topped with a gooey slice of American cheese and hugged by a warm, steamed potato bun. Comes with chips on the side, ‘cause we don’t need no frills when we’ve got flavor this big.

Perfect for the 4th of July? Shoot, this burger’s so American it probably sings the national anthem while you chow down, AND….it’s Oklahoma-famous—simple, scrappy, and full of flavor, just like the folks who love ’em.
